    • Grime MC Big Zuu creates custom rap about new Meatless Meatball Hot Wrap

  • Joining the menu is the world’s first crowdsourced wrap following a social search for the Next Pret Sandwich from lockdown

  • Nine vegan dishes join Pret and Veggie Pret this January, helping customers have vegan options all day long

5th January 2021: Pret A Manger will launch nine vegan items, including the new Meatless Meatball Hot Wrap, available in all stores and for delivery on the 5th January alongside their existing extensive vegan range. Pret is so confident in its vegan take on its classic Swedish Meatball Hot Wrap that they are removing the traditional version for a month.

The new Meatless Meatball Hot Wrap will be making its Pret debut after over 20 different attempts to perfect the recipe. This vegan version of the customer favourite Swedish Meatball Hot Wrap is the first dish at Pret and Veggie Pret to feature a plant-based meat alternative created in partnership with Meatless Farms. Coated in a layer of red tapenade and chipotle ketchup this vegan twist on a customer favourite is seasoned with garlic and herbs and topped with a sprinkling of crispy onions to pack it full of flavour.

To celebrate the launch of Pret’s new Meatless Meatball Hot Wrap and to celebrate people taking the vegan plunge, Pret have teamed up with Grime MC and 'Big Zuu’s Big Eats’ Dave series host, Big Zuu, who has written and recorded a rap about the tasty new wrap, with a music video directed by notorious grime videographer Kelvin Jones, who is the Creative Director for Aitch and has worked with the likes of Stormzy.

Big Zuu, Grime MC and 'Big Zuu’s Big Eats’ Dave TV Show Host said: “I’m gassed to be working with Pret! I’ve been a regular Pret customer throughout my life so to be involved in their new campaign is an exciting moment for me. We’ve come up with some great content that I hope you all enjoy!”

Joining the menu is the world’s first crowdsourced wrap following Pret’s social search to find the Next Pret Sandwich during last summer’s Lockdown. A very special chef’s Chef’s Special – Sunshine ‘n Spice Wrap was initially created by customer Paula (@paula_hadlow) from Canterbury. While the Pret food team were having to try and work from home and development kitchens were closed, Pret worked with customers (aka Honorary Pret Chefs) to come up with new flavour combinations. Created by customers for customers this vegan new wrap - filled with coronation chickpeas, mango chutney and toasted almonds - will be the first customer wrap to join the Pret menu.

The iconic Veggie Pret favourite and Vegan Classic range staple and best seller, Vegan Hoisin Mushroom Wrap, will also be replacing the Duck Hoisin Wrap in all Pret shops for a month. This vegan alternative is made with glazed mushrooms on a layer of Pret’s vegan Mayo hoisin sauce.

For Vegan rookies, why not try Pret’s iconic Dark Chocolate & Almond Butter Cookie which went viral after being shared during last summer’s lockdown. They are the perfect vegan treat to enjoy with a YourPret Barista coffee subscription which allows customers to enjoy all their coffees (and teas, frappes, hot chocolates...) for £20 a month with their first month FREE.

Start mornings off right alongside any hot drink with the new and returning vegan breakfast range including the new Vegan Breakfast Baguette featuring smashed avocado topped with roasted mushrooms, roasted tomatoes and fresh basil leaves or enjoy Pret's Coconut Porridge. For those with a sweeter tooth, you can still enjoy the freshly baked Very Berry croissant which is vegan friendly and delicious.

For those after vegan and vegetarian options,  at Veggie Pret you can still choose from vegan classics like the VLT or you can mix it up and try the brand new Avo & Chickpeas Herb Wrap made with a layer of Pret’s vegan mayo, sliced avocado, garlic roasted chickpeas, finished with basil or customers can order the new Vegan Chef's Italian Salad, dressed in Pret’s creamy vegan Caesar dressing alongside shiitake and chestnut mushrooms and avocados.

Briony Raven, UK Food & Coffee Director at Pret said: “Veganuary is a great opportunity for people to kick start the new year and try a more sustainable way of eating. At Pret we’ve long offered vegans, veggies and ‘flexies’ a wide variety of options for breakfast, lunch and now dinner.

“As trailblazers in vegan food, we’re really proud of our new Meatless Meatball Hot Wrap. We’ve worked hard to create something that has the Pret taste and quality of one of our classics that our customers expect. To encourage more people to try the new plant-based meat alternative hot wrap, we’ve decided to pull our Swedish Meatball wrap for a month as we’re that confident our customers will quickly fall in love with it.”

The new Veganuary range is available for takeaway or delivery from 5th January. Those attempting to be vegan this January can always enjoy Pret’s existing range of vegan items including the Iconic Dark Chocolate & Almond Butter Cookie or the Dinners by Pret vegan meals like Sticky Aubergine Hot Rice Bowl from the 1st January.
